Summer Sports Camp

Organized sports draw children into the physical activity that will enhance their lifelong vitality.  They builds: strength, confidence, leadership skills, and a sense of team.  Your child is in good company when involved in sports or physical recreation.  This program is appropriate for all levels of expertise.  Rookies gain muscle memory that will give them confidence in recreational play.  Veterans ‘level up’ with the advanced skill practices and individual skill improvement.  The goal is to motivate the participants to be involved in after school programs offered by their school, outside clubs, and any other sport related institutions.  We want sports and physical activity to be a part of their everyday life.  Motor skills and fundamentals of movement are very important in the life of a future athlete, and for the development of an active adult.

Outcomes

Affective:                    The child will feel confidant and eager to perform the various skills demonstrated to them each week.  The child will have an appreciation for each sport that is presented to them. They will be motivated and will form a positive attitude through teamwork and cooperation.

Cognitive:                  The child will demonstrate basic knowledge and comprehension of each sport throughout the camp. They will recognize and identify various skills and techniques during each lead up activity related to each sport.  The child will demonstrate and perform a series of skills to ensure success and feel confident in each drill.  They will also learn to break down the concepts of each sport.

Psychomotor:         The child will perform various movements, have coordination, and use motor-skills as they pertain to each sport. The child’s skill development requires practice and will be measured in terms of speed, precision, distance, procedures, or techniques in execution. The child will differentiate each skill as it pertains to each sport. The child’s “readiness to act,” or the mental, physical, and, emotional responses to situations, will be tested daily.  The child will show the proper mechanics of each skill with confidence and proficiency.

PICK UP GAMES WITH COACH

Coach Ramirez will be putting together impromptu games.  He will model how to get a group organized and playing.  The athletes will learn modified versions of games that accommodate different levels of play and number of players.  They will also practice self-officiating and fair team divisions.  They will learn to lead and good leader gets everyone involved!

BASIC SKILL: Athletes practice the movements particular to their sport.  These drills educate and train the rookies; the veterans will find them familiar.

ADVANCED SKILLS: Some of our athletes will have enough experience in their sport to need extra work for position technique, or they want to increase their performance.

THE BRAIN GAME: Sport theory is often overlooked for school-age athletes.  The coaches have activities that teach the sports strategies.  The campers also are exposed to the mental imagery and practices helpful throughout their lives. This will improve both the athlete’s and the fan’s understanding of the game.

AQUATICS: We will go to a private pool each Friday for aquatics and pool play.
